someone
there's someone who keeps me in line; someone whom i've not met for a long time; someone whose words, though indirect, were as sharp as the tip of a lance; even though i've not spoken to you in ages, or made the faintest noise in your direction; your words, penned down long ago, a candid description, a chance given, words you thought i'd never see; a strong reminder they'll forever be; a living testimony, i hope i can be. i'm not usually a fan of soppy love stories, but this one's good. written by low kay hua, it's set not so far away in singapore featuring two (fictional) students from njc. you can read the the first eleven chapters here... the problem is finding the other nine... hopefully nlb has it... running out of time...
losing his patience, he takes a deep breath, and slowly considers what has been going on. it has taken a few years, or more than that, with nothing having worked out, a pet project failed, umteen attempts down the drain. a proper mindset and attitude he had in the beginning, for much headway was still being made then, but the countless failures have taken its toll on his psyche, draining his enthusiasm, slowly milking out what little energy he has left to bother with. for every new discovery he makes, he gets labelled, accused unfairly. much as the airforce has an aircraft known as the night stalker, able to encroach on it's target with surprising steath and silence, each following technology invented is seen by the general public as an invasion to privacy, akin to telephone wire taps during the second world wars and beyond. his victory eludes him, but clues to the final destination are littered around, one sided conversations never initiated by him, but only heard in the wind, attest to that. but his ultimate dream still like a cloud of dust; visible, but inpalpible. he decides to try a little longer, his age bearing up on him. but whether the seeds of success have been sown, he still does not yet know, for only time will tell. the passion...
a few days ago i spent a night in the a&e down at alexandra hospital. no, it wasn't me who had a problem but i was there to accompany a good friend of mine, who had just returned from kalimantan. 2/3s of the mission trippers returned with a serious case of the runs while doing God's work. ok fine. 2/3s sounds like a lot, but it was 3 people who went okay? anyway, even with the runs, complete with a nice high fever that makes you collapse, they still pressed on, aiming to complete God's work in whatever capacity they could, the reason they went there in the first place. why do i start with this illustration? it shows us their passion and zeal for God, to serve him and to obey His commands. passion. what is it? can eat? no. unlike a passionfruit, passion is a word with latin roots, which means to suffer. they suffered at kalimantan, but still did His work. today i was at passionAC down at (you guessed it!) acjc, the first time i'd actually went for one. i'd always wanted to go since my school days but to cut a long story short, shy lah... it was a great experience, the band was perfect, the worship leaders inspiring. helsa and team did a really excellent job in putting this together i have to say. and the pianist was fantastic. however, what challenged me most was the message from the speaker, br hanson (hi hanson! yes thank you very much). he spoke about denying oneself, and picking up your cross, and following Him. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he would deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." -Matt 16:24 what, then, is denying oneself? What is taking up your cross? What is following Christ? from one verse alone comes three challenges, all of them with fairly simple answers which i will allow you to ponder on, but difficult to apply into one's life. simply put, it is all or nothing. Christ has paid the full and ultimate price for us, and in return, what do we give Him? do you have the passion for Christ? Thursday, July 3, 2008, 13:56

judgmentalism...
got this off a popular blog which got me thinking a little... ________________________________ Question 1: If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion? Read the next question before looking at the response for this one. Question 2: It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three candidates. Candidate A. Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologist. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day. Candidate B. He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening. Candidate C. He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife. Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first... no peeking, then scroll down for the response.......... Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt. Candidate B is Winston Churchill. Candidate C is Adolph Hitler. And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question: If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven. Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember: Amateurs...built the ark. Professionals...built the Titanic |
