rentre...
i've just returned from a nice two weeks in france and the week prior to that at church camp. many fond memories from both... camp was in jb, just a stone's throw away from 2nd link and combined with hebron (fun people, them =p) it was a great time of fellowship and getting to know others who you've yet to meet and also an exciting experience learning from dr. gene getz who spoke about the apostles. mind you, i'd thought the sermons and stuff would be dead boring, considering what he'd be going over but i was proven wrong. instead, we saw another side to those common folk, singled out by God to change the world. france was.. well.. france. same old architechture, walking, walking and more walking. it was fun though, living and roughing it out and trying to survive on your own in a city in the south east of the country; grenoble, if you're curious. by the end of the ten days there, i could probably guide you blindfolded around the city center, though not tell you where to buy what. the food, to put it in one word, was fabulous! fois gras at a euro for 200g, butter so fragrant you could eat it on it's own (with a baguette of course), and the cheese.. and that was just for breakfast! what struck me most, however, was the cycling (and driving) culture where people are so gracious and ever-willing to give way. there're even bike lanes for going in the opposite direction on a one way street! furturemore, i finally got to touch the tower, the tour d'effiel, which according to a certain genius, meant that you've finally been to paris. which meant that the last time i'd haven't actually been there yet as the tower was closed due to inclement weather. seeing la joconde (go google it, don't be lazy, its a famous da vinci work with the mysterious smile) was another experience in itself, along with the trekking through the louvre, although i didn't know that french royalty wore placards saying 'this exhibit is temporarily unavailable due to restoration' on their heads... in conclusion, as you all know, i'm simply too lazy to upload the photos. what an anti-climax, huh? =p Monday, June 2, 2008, 19:06
